Big Meanies

Debt collection agencies have a reputation for being a bit heavy handed at times. Be glad you don’t live in Russia, where the dastardly ex-Commies are more ruthless still:

Russia’s First Channel television reported Dalenergo, an electricity company in Russia’s Far Eastern city Vladivostok, is so frustrated by customers who owe around $10 million that it has decided to confiscate their pets.

“Let the father answer his daughter’s question as to why her favorite cat has been taken away,” Dalenergo Director Nikolai Tkachyov told First Channel.

This would have never happened under Communism, partly because under Communism men respect one another in brotherly fashion as comrades in the struggle against the bourgeoisie, but mostly because there’s really good eating on a pet. Are you going to finish that cat steak?
