Hottest Dog Trainer Ever

Foxtel’s History Channel is dedicating the month of August to The Vietnam War in recognition of the 40th anniversary of the battle of Long Tan.

In addition to a number of new and old docos, they are replaying the 1987 Kennedy Miller mini-series “Vietnam“, which stars Nicole Kidman and Barry Otto among others.

I’ve watched all 3 parts so far and have been thoroughly enjoying it, as I was too young to see it the first time around. It is hard to watch in some parts though, particularly a scene in the second episode which I won’t spoil for anyone who hasn’t seen it yet.

Now I have to disagree with Hugh Hefner because I don’t think Nicole Kidman is really all that hot by Hollywood standards. On the other hand, the 2 actresses who portray the Vietnamese villagers who become girlfriends of the main character and his best mate are much more to my taste.

Pauline Chan and Grace Parr also both appeared with Nicole Kidman in Bangkok Hilton 2 years after Vietnam was made.

Pauline Chan is quite hard to get a handle on because I think IMDB has confused 2 actresses with the same name in their list. Pauline Chan Bo-Lin was a well-known Hong Kong actress who starred in quite a few soft-porn films. She was born in 1973 which makes her way too young to be the same actress who starred in Vietnam, which was made in 1987.

I am guessing the same Pauline Chan who was in Vietnam is the same one who played Irene Cheung on the ABC’s “Grass Roots”, but I’ve only ever seen 3 episodes of Grass Roots and can’t remember that character. Her other most recognisable performance would probably be in “Paradise Road” where she features as “Random Chinese woman who is burned alive by Japanese prison guards”.

Grace Parr, on the other hand, pretty much gave up acting after Bangkok Hilton, and apart from a few cameos in TV shows like Water Rats has not been sighted since.

Until now!

She is now a dog behavioural therapist and trainer in Sydney. Still scrubs up pretty well too, even though she must be well into her 40s. Can’t see a wedding ring in that picture but in fairness her hands aren’t shown. My fan mail is already on the way. Pity I don’t have a dog.

I’m also enjoying Vietnam. I was too young to remember its original broadcasting as well. Given the current shite standard of the Australian film and television industry it’s pretty interesting to watch a programme that’s got a bit of thought behind it. If it was made today the diggers would probably be competing with one another too see who could lose the most weight or something.

World movies occassionly shows a Japanese film called “Fear and trembling”. It’s about a young Belgian woman trying to make her way in the Tokyo business world. Her main rival is an exceptionally hot Japanese woman. Well worth checking out if you get the chance.

These Kennedy Miller people are pretty much always on song. I rewatched Bodyline last year and I remember watching The Cowra Breakout when I was a kid. I still haven’t seen Bangkok Hilton so I might even consider splashing out on this

Just watched the final episode tonight and Grace Parr actually has more screen time in the final than in the rest of the series.

Wonder why she gave up acting?

About “Bangkok Hilton” (and others of its ilk like “Brokedown Palace”), according to the movies, is there one single westerner in a Thai prison who is guilty of knowingly transporting drugs? In the movies it seems like every single westerner who ended up in a Thai prison got there by carrying some recently met persons drug-loaded luggage at the airport (particularly if they are good-looking western women).

David: It is actually a often-repeated scam which is routinely warned of in travel guidebooks. I have no doubt that at least some of the people who have been imprisoned or executed were innocent. Obviously not all though.

Some women age well! Don’t forget, due to modern health regimens and some “other” advances, today’s 50 year old is often comparable to yesterday’s 30!

Grace is very happily married with a great husband and 2 great kids.
