Irrepressible!
This is possibly the best news I’ve ever heard. Words can’t even begin to express how fucking excited I am about this movie.
Jackie Chan, Jet Li unite for Monkey King tale
As long rumoured online by fans of both Chan and Li, the new movie is inspired by the ancient Chinese legend of the Monkey King, told in the 16th century novel Journey to the West.
However, the new project will feature an original script about a modern-day, kung fu-obsessed teenager who is transported to ancient China after discovering an artifact from the Monkey King in a pawn shop. Once there, the teen becomes involved in an attempt to rescue the mythological character.
God I hope they give him sideburns.
Update: Jet Li will be portraying Monkey, not Jackie Chan. Fight scenes Choreographed by Yuen Woo-Ping, of “Kill Bill”, “The Matrix”, and “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon”. Can you say OMFGWTFBBQ?

Just as important: will Tripitaka be in it and who will play her/him?

I’m pretty sure that Jet Li will be playing the “monk” character as well. “Tripitaka” is the Japanese translation of the monk’s name. The character is based on a real historical figure.
So, not hot chicks dressed up as monks. There will be hot chicks in the movie though.

Ahh good old Tripa, confused the hell out of me as a kid watching Monkey. How about Sandy and Pigsy will they get a guernsey?

Yes, sandy and pigsy are taken from the original novel, I am sure they will appear. Probably won’t be as comical as in the NTV/BBC version though.

One of my friends was banned from watching Monkey as a kid (his mother is a Christian fundamentalist — obviously the demons and philosophical message at the end were just too much). This had better be good to make up for it.

So the TV show Tripitaka was a girl… Like Anthony I was very confused by it all back then.

How come I have to learn this here while the mass media waffle on about some planet somewhere having global warming. Where are their priorities?
